International Exhibition Satyrykon – Legnica 2018

The turn of 2018 and 2019 at the Museum of Caricature will pass under the sign Satyrykon.Satyrykon is one of the most important satirical drawing competitions in the world. Every year, both young and old artists, professionals and amateurs from different parts of the world take part in it. This year’s 41st edition was attended by 584 authors from 54 countries, and 174 works by 116 artists qualified for the exhibition. This year the theme of the competition was „Empathy”. The artists undertook to define this concept, showing manifestations of empathy or lack of it in various human behaviors, while paying attention to this socially important issue. An important part of the exhibition will also consist of the works addressing current issues, they represent the permanent competition category „Humour and Satire”. Among the participants of the exhibition were such names as, among others: Doru Axinte (Romania), Marco de Angelis (Italy), Tomasz Broda (Poland), Jerzy Głuszek (Poland), Nika Jaworowska-Duchlińska (Poland), Ryszard Kaja (Poland), Robert Kempisty (Poland), Jarosław Korczak (Poland), Jiři Koštýř (Czech Republic) Andrei Popov (Russia) and Zbigniew Woźniak (Poland) – winner of this year’s Satyrykon Grand Prix.

From the beginning, Satyrykon has been accompanied by activities that go beyond the visual arts. This tradition of rewarding rebellious, inspirational Personas is a relatively „young” event. Since 2013, Szpile (Pins) have been awarded for: open mind, sense of humor, distance to oneself and the surrounding world. The selection of laureates is made annually by the Jury representing Polish opinion-forming circles. Until now, it has included Artur Andrus, Rafał Bryndal, Piotr Cieplak, Sylwia Chutnik, Magda Czapińska, Mikołaj Lizut, Jerzy Kisielewski, Grzegorz Miecugow, Tomasz Olbratowski, Wojciech Orliński, Andrzej Pacuła, Agata Passent, Magda Piekarska, Marek Przybylik, and Mirosław Ratajczak, Łukasz Rostkowski (LUC), Justyna Sobolewska, Grzegorz Szczepaniak and Janusz Weiss.
